Reveille The Most Drought Tolerant Bluegrass Period!
The drought resistant turfgrass experts
Recognizing the
importance of technology to our industry, we've invested hundreds of
thousands of dollars in research and development, testing new seed mixes and
species. Gardner has been working with and funding universities, extension
agents and turfgrass breeders world wide since the late 1980’s in research
and development of drought tolerant/low water use grass varieties. A direct
result of this is the introduction of Reveille a low water use grass that
has all the qualities of Kentucky bluegrass. There are many more varieties
that we are very excited about which should be released in the near future.
(stay tuned for release dates) Our father, Al Gardner was the first
sod grower to be invited to sit on the board of the National Turfgrass
Evaluation Program (NTEP). Both Al and his Son Stan were Presidents of
what is now Turf Producers International (TPI). Stan Gardner was
committee member on TPI’s water right
committee that developed the book Water Right....... Conserving Our Water,
Preserving Our Environment. Assisted, GreenCO in developing best management
practices for the Colorado front range greens industry. Stan was also
president/manager of Sunbelt Reclamation from 1996-2004 working with and
planting native grasses, flowers and shrubs in AZ, TX, NM, UT, NV and CA.
We have worked with cities, government agencies and irrigation control
experts throughout the front range and southwest desert climates to ensure
that the water needs of both people and landscapes are met.
Reveille "SEED" must be planted no later than Aug 15
in cool season areas.

2000-2001 CSU Reveille Case Study
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Our results indicate that HBG (Reveille) exhibits a lower inherent ET rate than KBG, as
well as the ability to moderate its ET as
evaporative demand increases relative to KBG, thereby
reducing water loss. Hybrid bluegrass exhibited lower leaf water content and
slower shoot growth than KBG under non-limiting
soil moisture conditions, characteristics
advantageous to reduce water use. Additionally, HBG possesses a significantly
deeper, more extensive root system than KBG, enabling water extraction from
a greater volume of depth when surface soil water is depleted. We conclude that
these factors combined contribute significantly
to the reduced water use and greater drought
avoidance observed in HBG relative to KBG in these studies.
- Green Year Round In Southern Climates
- Same Water Requirements As Common Bermuda
- Barefoot Soft Look And Feel Of Kentucky Bluegrass
- Thrives Under The Hot Sun (Great For The Transition Zone)
- Resists Insects And Disease
- Deep Green Color
- Rotary Or Reel Mower
Reveille....A brand new hybrid turfgrass, crosses native Texas bluegrass and Kentucky bluegrass. Reveille is a multi-use cool season grass for the Eastern
Seaboard, Transition Zone, arid West and Southern United States.
Look for it in....golf courses, home lawns, commercial and industrial parks. Enjoy a beautiful dark green lawn, with medium-texture, heat and full sun tolerance, cold hardiness, and insect and disease resistance. Great for people who want a green landscape, winter and summer without the labor-intensive seasonal changes from one turf to
another.
Easily established with sod all year.
Water: Compare to common bermudagrass water needs. (1/3 pan evaporation) Needs one long drink, not many short ones. Hates wet feet. Don't water frequently. For healthy roots, this bluegrass needs a dry down period between watering.
